Day Five

Yo!
I am falling asleep at the keyboard, but wanted to sneak a quick post in before bed. I was feeling a little sore today after spinning and a late night, so I thought this evening would be the perfect time to try my first Core Restore class at Corepower. Core Restore is CP's version of yin yoga. Quick lesson: Yin is the opposite of yang. Now, I usually attend yang yoga classes. These are classes with a focus on power, strength, core work, balance, and stamina. Yang brings fluidity and heat to your practice. Yin, on the other hand, works to cool your body down and stretch out your ligaments, joints, and muscles through a series of gentle poses held for longer periods of time. I thought that after all of the power yoga I was doing, yin yoga would be a snap. It was incredibly relaxing, but definitely not always comfortable. Tonight, we focused on hip openers and I had to really work to hold my poses. This class pushed my muscles in a way that I wasn't used to. I had to take on a whole new mindset; instead of channeling strength, I pushed myself to let go of my body. It was a little unbelievable how difficult it was to let my limbs hang free and to not push myself further than necessary. I realized tonight how competitive I have become in my practice and will have to find more of a balance between my yin and yang. This was a good way to start my week. Tomorrow is my first day as a full time business woman and student- yikes! I am so excited to go back to school and start my journey towards a career that I really want, but naturally I am also nervous for the challenges that lie ahead; let alone the sleep that I'll be missing out on!

Peace, love, sweat xoxo SR
